Cookie Dough 101 Pop Quiz

Way back when I made these amazing chocolate cookies (thanks to my blogger friend Lindsey who created this perfect recipe). If you haven't made these cookies yet, you really should. This recipe is a keeper. The best chocolate cookie recipe I've used. Awesome, delicious, perfect. Enough gushing? Okay.

Now for today's POP QUIZ. A simple True or False question for you.

When you make cookies, you should cook all the dough at once.
T or F?

Get out your red pencils...here comes the answer...I would put it upside down at the bottom of the post, but I don't want you hurting yourself lifting the big heavy computer monitor...FALSE!!! Unless you have 13 children (which I was nearly forced to have thanks to Pottery Barn, more on that another day), when you make your cookie dough, simply cook one tray of cookies. Stick the rest of the dough in the fridge for later. Why, you may ask? Well, what is better than fresh-out-of-the-oven cookies? Why fresh-out-of-the-oven cookies day after day, of course! :)

If you got the answer right, A+. If you didn't, you fail...but it won't go on your permanent record. Promise.

This is not a cookie comment - though I did fail the test and can't wait to find out why you nearly were forced to have 13 kids - which would be fine with me by the way- This is a request (last minute) for Superbowl favorites - yummy and easy or make ahead- Any new suggestions out there? I need something new - We've had enough 7 layer dip and wings already...

I do love fresh baked cookies, but I sort of like them the day after better - after they've sat in a ziploc overnight on the counter.

As far as the Superbowl goes - Costco has a great Spinach Artichoke dip. I also really like the frozen cream cheese poppers you can get at Costco. I was looking for healthy suggestions and came up with fruit, popcorn, and chicken quesadillas.

I agree with you...a big FALSE! I always double my cookie dough batches and instead of putting it in the fridge, I roll the cookie dough into balls and freeze them all lined up on a cookie sheet (basically filling ever little space). This way they freeze individually and don't stick together. After they have frozen individually I put them in a ziplock bag in the freezer. All I have to do is pull out 12-15 cookie balls and let them thaw on a cookie sheet while the oven pre-heats. Also, the frozen cookie dough is a sweet little indulgence in and of itself!

I have finally starting saving cookie dough and it is so nice and indulgent of myself to spread out the eating of cookies!

great idea on freezing the dough balls! and I did forget to mention how yummy it is having dough on hand...I know, eating dough is technically a no-no. oh well. after I had cate, I made cookies just so I had the dough in the fridge. I shouldn't be admitting that.

Though if you have a husband like mine make sure you hide the cookie dough!

You can skip the step of freezing them on a cookie sheet- I do mine right in ziplock bags in one layer and stick the whole thing in the freezer- if they do stick they are easy to pull apart. Also, use the pampered chef scoop to get evenly shaped cookies every time!!

I'm glad you still love that recipe. I agree with you!

I make big batches of several different cookie doughs and freeze them in balls using little ice cream scoops. Then, I can pick from several kinds or bake PB & choc chip at the same time. This came in handy for a piano recital and an Enrichment night when I needed several dozen.

Jane - do you remember that there was always cookie dough in the fridge growing up. No one in our house would eat a cookie that was older than 20 minutes!

I scoop out all the fresh cookie dough onto a cookie sheet with a special cookie scoop so that they are uniform in size. Then, put the entire cookie sheet into the freezer for an hour. You can then pop the raw dough balls into a freezer bag and take out as many as you need when you need them. It's a lot easier than scooping frozen dough!
