Super Baby Food

I have a few friends right now who are starting their babies on solid foods. I was talking to Nate about it and he suggested I do a quick post! Sorry to the non-baby people out there...although, the book I mention below is a great baby gift idea!

Tip #1: When it's time to start your baby on rice cereal, use Earth's Best brand. Trust me...not to get too graphic on a food website, but it will keep your baby's system happy, if you know what I mean. :)

Tip #2: Super Baby Foodby Ruth Yaron is a GREAT resource. If you want to make your own baby food, it's a must-have. If you don't want to make your own baby food, it is still a very handy book to have around. I used it a lot in the beginning. It really helped me to know what foods I could feed to Cate at what stages, etc. Despite eventually giving up on making my own baby food, I'm still very glad I had the book at my fingertips. You gotta get it, mommies!

So, that's all I have to say on the subject...well not really, I've got plenty to say on the subject. I'm just giving you a break for now. :)

You know, this book is great even if you don't have kids just for all the information and how-to's it has. It gives great directions for doing your own sprouts, making your own yogurt, bread, etc. Both of my kids are well past the "super baby food" stage but I still reference this book all the time. In fact, I just referenced the "vegetable index" last night -- instructions for several different methods of how to cook practically every veggie out there! Okay, that's enough. Sorry to go on but I love this book!

I haven't read this one, but the one I used, and found helpful, was "Mommy Made and Daddy Too!: Home Cooking for a Healthy Baby & Toddler"

It also has great info on food and stages, as well as how to cook all different fruits and veggies, as well as good healthy meal ideas that work for the whole family, down to the very youngest eaters.

Love this book too! And for anyone who might be thinking that making your own baby food is just too hard--you don't have to do it all or nothing. I bought a lot more with #2, but still felt like it was easy enough to blend up the leftover veges from our dinner or some fresh fruit and throw it in the freezer.

I love that book. I did mostly homemade baby food for both my kids and I always recommend it to my friends.
