Musings: Why Meal Planning RULES
You may be thinking right now, "Isn't this a food blog? Why am I looking at a flower? Has Jane gone green-thumb on us?" The answers are...Yes, Yes, and NO WAY. No plant in its right mind wants me thinking I have a green thumb. Honestly, the orchid just looked so pretty at breakfast this morning under the kitchen light. And flowers, while I may kill them, DO in fact make me happy...kind of like...(prepare for terribly cheesy segue)...meal planning!
So, I don't know why you visit my blog. Maybe you like the pictures, maybe the recipes without measurements, maybe you even like reading what I have to say (that seems unlikely!)...regardless, the whole reason I started the blog was to get myself planning my weekly menus, and getting other people's ideas is super helpful - enter blog.
I was thinking I should do a little PR for my blog and try to convince the un-converted of you out there why planning a weekly menu is so great. I don't actually enjoy the planning part, but the result is so worth it. It makes life so much less stressful. Seriously. When I don't plan, cooking is a DRAG...when I do plan, it's no big deal. I go to the store less. I spend less money (usually). It really just makes life EASIER. I'm not an organized person or some super duper chef...but meal planning helps tremendously. TRUST ME. If you aren't planning, you should give it a shot! Okay, I'm done preaching.

Agree on all points, except that I do actually enjoy the planning part too. Although lately it has gotten a little frustrating as I've been in a bit of a cooking funk.
I just started reading your blog recently and really enjoy it.
I have made a few of the recipes.
I do usually plan for about 4 days or so. I agree it makes life way less stressful. I kind of enjoy the planning part (especially when I find new recipes to try such as the one's on your blog and others).
It is a bit time consuming though to figure it all out each week when I have a zillion other things to do.
Oh! I found your blog searching for yoga and the link brought me to the post where you recommended yogatoday.com.
Keep the great posts coming!
Thanks!
Toni
I am a planner, too. I usually just plan a week at a time, and whether or not I stick to it is another thing, but I love taking less trips to the grocery store. There is nothing worse than finishing a day of work only to have to go fight the crowds at the grocery store. Once a week is plenty for me!!
Jane, I just saw your comment about the rhodes rolls. We use the regular white roll dough and spread it out more thinly before frying them. my roomate used the loaves and then rolls them out and cuts them with a knife. I thought it was too time consuming that way though. You should try it.
Yes. You've got me planning meals much more now than ever before. Love that picture, Jane.
Jane,
I'm Jenn Winn's sister in law and she told me about your site. I go on it often to check out what's new and some fun recipes, but also I love the creativity you put into it. Thanks for giving me another push to plan. Being a full-time worker, dinner can be quite a pain when I don't plan. I posted your site on my blog too. I have a yummy recipe for Banana Bread that I'll share sometime too.
